Expressing her feelings about the ceremony, von der Leyen said: “It was an honor to be at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and to witness the Last Post at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.”
Highlighting the historical solidarity between Australia and Europe, von der Leyen said: “From Europe, we gratefully remember the sacrifice and courage of the many Australians who stood by our side in our pursuit of peace and freedom.”
