Lazzarini: Israel excluded UNRWA instead of cooperating with the UN
Brussels, September 17 (Hibya) – UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, referring to the UN Commission of Inquiry’s report, stated that Israel was obstructing relief organizations and called on all member states to support the ceasefire appeal in Gaza.
Lazzarini recalled that 18 months had passed since the International Court of Justice’s ruling against Israel.
He highlighted the words in the report released yesterday by the UN Commission of Inquiry: “Israel, far from cooperating with the United Nations, responded by banning and excluding the main UN agency providing aid and humanitarian support.”
According to the Commission’s report, Israel is creating unlivable conditions in Gaza by obstructing the activities of relief organizations, which amounts to the physical destruction of Palestinians.
In his statement, Lazzarini called on all member states to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure the free conduct of UN humanitarian operations, including UNRWA’s aid distribution network.
