Lazzarini: A man-made hunger crisis continues in Gaza
New York, December 19 (Hibya) – Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said that a man-made hunger crisis continues in Gaza.
Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, stated that a man-made hunger crisis continues in Gaza.
Lazzarini said that the latest report published by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) reveals how fragile the improvements recorded since the ceasefire began in October are.
“Although the Gaza Governorate is no longer classified as being in famine, 1.6 million people are still facing high levels of acute food insecurity. To end this catastrophe, large-scale entry of aid must be allowed and humanitarian organizations must be enabled to carry out their duties.”
Lazzarini said, “UNRWA has food parcels sufficient for 1.1 million people ready to enter the Gaza Strip, as well as flour stocks sufficient to cover the entire population.”
