Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, noting that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has turned into an extension of NATO and the European Union (EU) in the deeds accomplished, stated the following:

"In just a little over a year, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act. I must sadly note that as this important date approaches, OSCE is in a sorry state, and its future is uncertain. Western capitals, driven by jealousy, are killing OSCE's chance of revival. They have created a European political community without Russia and Belarus."
