Lavrov: Agreement reached to continue work with the United States
New York, December 10 (Hibya) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on December 10: “During the visit of U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steven Whitkoff to Moscow, discussions continued on the relevant proposals of the American side. An agreement was reached to continue this work.”
Lavrov, speaking during the government hour at the Federation Council, said that the Russian side highly values U.S. President Donald Trump’s desire for dialogue on this issue.
He added: “President Trump is the only Western leader who, immediately after arriving at the White House in January, began to understand the reasons that made the war in Ukraine inevitable.”
Lavrov emphasized that the proposals brought by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff highlight the need to guarantee the rights of national minorities and religious freedoms in Ukraine, while also stressing that the European Union is under the illusion that Russia can be defeated.
Lavrov added: “After investing all their political capital into the war against Russia, using the hands and bodies of Ukrainian citizens, they believe in their desperate political blindness that they can somehow defeat our country. As the President has stressed, we have no intention of entering a war with Europe; such a thought does not even occur to us.”
