Lahbib calls for urgent humanitarian aid for Gaza
Brussels, January 6 (Hibya) – EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib emphasized that, in light of the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, international civil society organizations must be allowed to operate without obstruction.
EU Commissioner Lahbib drew attention to the fact that humanitarian conditions in Gaza are deteriorating day by day, noting that, together with winter conditions, Palestinian civilians are being exposed to cold weather and rainfall without access to safe shelters.
Lahbib stated that children are being deprived of education and that health facilities are struggling to provide services with limited staff and equipment, adding that United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, which foresees the establishment of a Peace Council for Gaza and a temporary International Stabilization Force, has been welcomed.
Lahbib stressed that it is vital for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza and all parts of Gaza quickly, safely and without obstruction. She also called on Israel not to implement, in its current form, the registration law that restricts the activities of civil society organizations.
