Kristersson: Gripen jets were scrambled twice due to Russian warplanes
Stockholm, June 13 (Hibya) - Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets were scrambled twice on the same day in response to Russian military aircraft detected near Swedish airspace.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson made a statement regarding Russian military aircraft detected near Swedish airspace.
Kristersson stated, “As part of Sweden's incident response readiness, JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets were scrambled twice on the same day to intercept Russian military aircraft near Swedish airspace.”
Noting that Russian activities over the Baltic Sea are a serious matter, Kristersson emphasized that the rapid response of the Swedish Air Force demonstrates the importance of maintaining constant readiness.
Kristersson noted that Swedish airspace was not violated during the incident and said, “This time, there was no violation of Swedish airspace. However, the incident shows how quickly the situation can change and how important it is for Sweden, together with its allies, to detect and identify Russian military aircraft and respond when necessary in order to safeguard its airspace.”
