European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas commented on the ceasefire and peace process in Gaza.

In a social media post, Kallas said that the full implementation of the plan to disarm Hamas in Gaza could be a constructive step toward peace.

Kallas welcomed the agreement reached through U.S. mediation with the support of Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and Nikolay Mladenov, emphasizing that many elements must be fulfilled for the process to succeed.

Kallas said, “Success depends on the full commitment of all parties. Verifying Hamas' compliance with its obligations will be a significant challenge.”

Kallas stated that Israel should withdraw from Gaza during the process and that the European Union is ready to support the next steps.

She added that the entry of the National Committee and the International Stabilization Force into Gaza would also be among the measures supported.

Kallas noted that the EU's two missions on the ground play an important role in supporting efforts to build a Palestinian state and that the European Union is the largest humanitarian aid donor to Gaza.

She also announced that in July the EU committed €900 million in aid projects to support Gaza's post-war recovery.
