The wave of demonstrations came just one day after thousands marched through the streets of Minneapolis to protest the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE).

Despite extreme cold, protesters gathered again to raise their voices against the agency and to show support for Pretti and others harmed by the recent surge of immigration agents that have flooded the city in recent weeks.

Live streams of Saturday night’s demonstrations captured crowds chanting “F*** ICE, ICE get out.” In New York’s Union Square, thousands more rallied, with demonstrators heard shouting, “Say it once, say it twice, we won’t tolerate ICE!”

New York City Council member Chi Ossé addressed the crowd in freezing temperatures, calling for the abolition of ICE. In Washington, D.C., a massive crowd formed in front of the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Hundreds gathered Saturday night in the dark, with cries of “shame” echoing in the cold air.

On the opposite coast, in San Francisco, hundreds assembled in the city center as the sun began to set. Videos shared on social media showed large crowds carrying banners and chanting slogans such as “Stand up, fight back.” Protesters held signs condemning ICE and demanding justice for Minneapolis resident Renee Good, who was shot and killed earlier this month by an immigration officer.

In Providence, hundreds staged a protest in front of the local DHS headquarters. Some protesters chanted “Shut it down, shut it down, shut it down!” while others carried signs reading “No Tyrants or Kings” and “ICE is the worst of the worst.”

In Boston, demonstrators marching through the streets chanted in unison: “One, two, three, four, no more ICE deportations! Five, six, seven, eight, end terror and hate!”
