Guterres: We need a strong, independent and well-funded WHO
New York, May 21 (Hibya) - United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres touched upon international health diplomacy, humanitarian aid efforts during crises, and strengthening the institutional capacity of the global health architecture.
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the World Health Assembly brings countries together to address global health issues, emphasizing that the World Health Organization (WHO), which plays a central role in increasing emergencies, must have a strong, independent and well-funded structure.
Highlighting the unifying mission of the World Health Assembly, Secretary-General Guterres said, “The ongoing World Health Assembly is bringing countries together to address global health issues.”
Emphasizing the active role of the World Health Organization in the field and its institutional needs, Guterres stated, “The World Health Organization is at the center of these efforts and provides emergency health support during increasing emergencies. We need a strong, independent and well-funded WHO.”
