UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement on the latest developments in the Red Sea, stressing his concern over the renewed threats to maritime navigation.

Referring to the security situation in the region, Guterres said: "I am deeply concerned by the resumption of Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the renewed threats to maritime navigation."

Highlighting the potentially far-reaching consequences of further hostilities, Guterres stated: "Any further escalation in Yemen will undermine hopes for peace and result in serious economic, humanitarian, and environmental consequences across the region and beyond."

Guterres concluded his statement by saying: "I call for an immediate de-escalation and urge the Houthis to refrain from further attacks or any other escalatory actions."
