Ghebreyesus: We demand permission for access to medical supplies in Sudan
Geneva, August 29 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that Sudan’s El Fasher state has been under siege for more than 500 days and called for access to deliver medical supplies.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus said that Sudan’s El Fasher state has been under siege for more than 500 days.
He noted that 260,000 people are in urgent need of health assistance; around 5,000 suspected cholera cases with nearly 100 deaths; 130,000 children suffering from malnutrition due to lack of food, and many victims of sexual violence without any health services or mental health support. “35 health facilities have been destroyed. WHO’s supplies are depleted,” he said.
Ghebreyesus added that additional supplies prepositioned in Nyala are ready to be delivered to El Fasher at any time and reiterated his call for access.
