Ghebreyesus: Around 50 million sepsis cases occur worldwide each year
Geneva, September 13 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that around 50 million sepsis cases are recorded worldwide annually.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus stated that about 50 million sepsis cases occur globally each year, half of them in infants and children, particularly in healthcare facilities.
Pointing out that there are 11 million deaths among these 50 million cases, Ghebreyesus said: "However, most sepsis-related deaths can be prevented with low-cost infection prevention and control measures, early diagnosis, and rapid treatment. No one should die while receiving healthcare."
