Frederiksen: Defence of the Arctic is a matter for the whole of NATO
Brussels, 23 January (Hibya) – Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stressed the need for NATO to increase its engagement in the Arctic as she met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen said: “We agree that NATO needs to increase its engagement in the Arctic. Defence and security in the Arctic are a matter for the entire Alliance.”
NATO Secretary General Rutte, commenting on his meeting with Frederiksen in Brussels, said they are working together to ensure the security of NATO as a whole. Emphasising that cooperation to strengthen deterrence and defence in the Arctic region will continue, Rutte noted that Denmark makes strong contributions to collective security and is increasing its investments in this area.
Frederiksen also stated that she will travel from Brussels to Nuuk, where she will meet with Naalakkersuisut Chairman Jens-Frederik Nielsen.
