Four million children in Afghanistan need treatment due to malnutrition
Stockholm, January 17 (Hibya) – The United Nations World Food Programme estimates that four million children and adolescents in Afghanistan will need treatment for malnutrition over the next 12 months.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women are also a vulnerable group, with an estimated one million women expected to require treatment due to malnutrition.
Since the Taliban came to power in 2021, food aid in Afghanistan has been severely restricted. Crop shortages, drought and poor economic conditions have further worsened living conditions for Afghans.
Doctors Without Borders says that more than 300 children are admitted each month to a hospital in Herat for treatment due to malnutrition.
The situation is deteriorating, and if current conditions persist, four million children in Afghanistan will require treatment for malnutrition in the near future.
