In September 2025, according to Eurostat, unemployment in the Eurozone remained steady at 6.3% for the third consecutive month. This rate is slightly above the historic low of 6.2% recorded in October and November 2024, and just above the level before the introduction of the euro in January 1999. Across the European Union as a whole, unemployment remained stable at 6.0%, maintaining August’s level.

Spain continues to record the highest unemployment rates at 10.5%, followed by Finland (9.8%), Sweden (8.7%), Greece (8.2%) and France (7.6%). At the other end of the spectrum, Malta and the Czech Republic reported a 3.0% unemployment rate, Slovenia 3.1% and Poland 3.2%. Bulgaria’s unemployment rate declined from 3.6% in August to 3.5%, down 4.0% compared to the same period last year, placing it just behind the four EU countries with the lowest unemployment rates.

According to Eurostat, as of September 2025, there were 13.246 million unemployed people in the EU, of whom 11.003 million were in the Eurozone. Compared to August, the number of unemployed increased by 63,000 in the EU and by 65,000 in the Eurozone. Year-on-year, total unemployment in the EU rose by 227,000, of which 187,000 were in the Eurozone. In Bulgaria, the number of unemployed fell to 106,000, down from 109,000 in August and 122,000 in September 2024.

Youth unemployment remained at 14.8% across the EU, while in the Eurozone it rose slightly from 14.3% to 14.4%. In Bulgaria, youth unemployment declined from 15.2% in August to 14.5%, but remains well above the 11.3% recorded in September 2024.
