Von der Leyen stated that the EU has proposed imposing sanctions on extremist ministers and violent settlers and suspending trade privileges with Israel.

She emphasized that the proposals include suspending bilateral support to Israel without affecting cooperation with Israeli civil society or Yad Vashem, and added: “The horrific events happening every day in Gaza must stop. A ceasefire must be achieved immediately, unlimited access to all humanitarian aid must be ensured, and all hostages held by the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement must be released.”

Von der Leyen also underlined that the EU remains the largest donor of humanitarian aid and an unwavering defender of the two-state solution, which has been undermined by the recent settlement moves of the Israeli government in the West Bank.
