This year, FIFA President Gianni Infantino introduced the award, given to individuals who have taken “exceptional and extraordinary steps for peace” and who “unite people across the world.”

Trump’s win was widely expected, as he arrived at the ceremony with Infantino and has appeared alongside him several times in public in recent months.

This was confirmed on Friday during the ceremony in Washington, D.C.

In addition to a large golden trophy, Trump was presented with a medal and a certificate by Infantino before delivering his speech.

Trump claimed that he had saved “tens of millions of lives” through diplomatic interventions and that he had “stopped wars before they even began.”

Before asserting that ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup had reached record levels, Trump said, “This is truly one of the greatest honors of my life.”

“Gianni has done an incredible job. This is a wonderful tribute to you and to football — or as we call it, soccer — beyond numbers we thought possible.”

“The world is now a safer place. A year ago, the United States was not in good shape; now we are the hottest country anywhere in the world.”

The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico and will take place from June 11 to July 19.

Trump later returned to the stage alongside Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to open the draw ceremony.
