European Council President António Costa said in a statement that he met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

Costa said that in the face of changing geopolitical conditions, Europe needs to strengthen its defense capacity more rapidly and support its competitiveness. Stating that Europe must have the resources needed to meet the needs of companies, farmers and researchers, Costa said these goals should also be reflected in the European Union budget.

Costa emphasized that Europe’s sovereignty, competitiveness and capacity to act should be strengthened through a renewed budget structure and new own resources.
