European Council President Costa stated that Russia carried out a large-scale attack overnight targeting Ukraine’s energy system and civilian infrastructure, stressing that such attacks on civilians are unacceptable.

Costa said targeting energy infrastructure is an attempt to terrorize the Ukrainian people and added: “The European Union stands firmly with Ukraine. Together with our international partners, we will continue to support the repair, reconstruction, and protection of Ukraine’s energy system.”

Costa emphasized that Russia’s attacks will not succeed and noted that they support efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine.
