Colombian President Requests the Resignation of the Entire Cabinet
Bogotá, February 10 (Hibya) - Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on social media platform X that he has requested the resignation of all ministers and senior officials in the country.
In his statement on X, the president emphasized that a cabinet reshuffle is necessary to advance his political agenda and fulfill his campaign promises.
President Petro said, "I have requested the official resignation of ministers and administrative department heads." He added, "There will be some changes in the cabinet to ensure better alignment with the program mandated by the people. The government will be fully focused on implementing the program."
During a cabinet meeting, Petro noted that 75% of his campaign program had not yet been fulfilled. No member of his cabinet was exempt from criticism, but he specifically focused on the Ministries of Education, Energy, Defense, and Housing. With less than a year and a half until the elections, this decision is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the left’s chances.
So far, Environment Minister Susana Muhamad, Culture Minister Juan David Correa, and Labor Minister Gloria Ines Ramirez have announced their resignations.
