Carney: Canada stands in solidarity with the Lebanese people
Ottawa, May 9 (Hibya) - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reiterated his commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty during a phone call with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and called for an end to the conflicts in the region.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed concern over rising tensions and civilian displacement in Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of disarmament and diplomacy for lasting peace.
Sharing details of the conversation, Carney said, “Canada stands in solidarity with the Lebanese people and supports Lebanon’s territorial integrity. I spoke with President Aoun today.”
Presenting his stance on military activities in the region, Carney stated, “I condemned Israel’s illegal occupation of Lebanon and Hezbollah’s ongoing attacks against Israel. I expressed my full support for Lebanon’s efforts to disarm Hezbollah.”
Highlighting the importance of a ceasefire to improve the humanitarian situation, Carney said, “I emphasized the importance of maintaining a genuine ceasefire and creating conditions for displaced civilians to return safely to their homes.”
