Canadian Foreign Minister Anand said relations between Canada and Europe have entered a new phase.

Anand said she attended the Gymnich meeting in Ireland, marking the first participation of a Canadian foreign minister in the meeting. She added that Canada had also participated in the European Union Foreign Affairs Council in May.

Anand argued that Russia is seeking to gain time and weaken countries’ resolve, saying that the decisions being taken will have long-term consequences for Ukraine’s future and Europe’s security balance.

Anand said that during Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, Canada is working with Ukraine and its European allies to strengthen military and economic resilience, increase pressure on Moscow, and achieve a just and lasting peace on terms acceptable to Ukraine.

Anand said Canada’s engagement with Europe will continue at the Canada-EU Leaders’ Summit to be held in October, where shared transatlantic priorities will be discussed.
