Ottawa, August 22 (Hibya) - Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced that she discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation between the two countries during her meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung.

Anand stated that Vietnam is an important partner for Canada, noting that the country is Canada's largest trading partner in the ASEAN region.
She said that Vietnam is at the center of Canada's economic engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
The meeting addressed strengthening trade ties between the two countries, increasing cooperation in the energy sector, expanding trade and investments, and developing common security interests.
Anand also stated that views were exchanged on continuing efforts to strengthen people-to-people ties between Canada and Vietnam.
Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung also welcomed Canada's long-term interest in ASEAN and its support for Vietnam.
Trung stated that the comprehensive partnership between the two countries should be further developed.
The two ministers agreed to reconnect in the coming weeks to evaluate progress achieved in areas of cooperation.
