Bulgaria presents its policies on children's and disability rights at the UN
Sofia, November 8 (Hibya) – Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Ivan Krustev, presented his country’s policies for protecting the rights of children and persons with disabilities during the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Fourth Periodic Review, held in Geneva, Switzerland.
Krustev emphasized that Bulgaria remains fully committed to maintaining the highest international standards in the protection and promotion of human rights. He outlined his country’s policies ensuring the rights of children, the elderly, and people with disabilities, as well as promoting gender equality and preventing violence.
“Bulgaria is a model country in implementing the most comprehensive reform aimed at reducing institutional care for children. Thanks to the efforts of the state, civil society, international organizations, and society as a whole, 135 special institutions for children have been closed,” Krustev said, adding that the care system for the elderly and disabled has also been restructured.
The Deputy Minister stated that the goal of the reform is to provide accessible, high-quality social and healthcare services for everyone and to enhance opportunities for social interaction.
“Our policies aim to ensure that persons with disabilities can fully and equally exercise their rights, participate fully in society, and receive the necessary support for themselves and their families,” Krustev concluded.
