Biden unsure if Netanyahu delayed Gaza deal to influence US elections
Washington, October 5 (Hibya) - United States President Joe Biden said he did not know whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delayed a ceasefire agreement in Gaza to influence the November US elections.
Biden was directly asked about the question at a White House press conference on Friday, just days before the first anniversary of the war in Gaza in which at least 41,802 Palestinians have been killed.
"No administration has ever helped Israel more than I have. None. None. None. And I think Bibi should remember that. And I don't know if he's trying to influence the election, but I don't think so," Biden said, referring to the Israeli leader by his nickname.
The Biden administration has for months downplayed the possibility that Israel would deliberately delay such a deal and instead has regularly blamed the breakdown in talks on Hamas. He did so despite repeated reports that Netanyahu’s position had shifted throughout the talks, preventing any breakthrough.
Still, some senior Democrats are increasingly questioning whether Netanyahu’s military calculations are keeping an eye on the US elections and former President Donald Trump’s potential victory.
