Belgian Foreign Minister Prevot in Japan
Tokyo, September 17 (Hibya) – Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, Maxime Prevot, held several political meetings, including with Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa and Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prevot visited Japan as part of his trip to Asia.
Emphasizing that strengthening and deepening relations with Japan is more important than ever for political and economic diplomacy, Prevot said: “With its strong democracy, defense of international law, and leading role as an economic and technological partner, strengthening relations with Japan is vital in a world struggling with conflicts and trade wars that push us to diversify and strengthen our global partnerships.”
Prevot noted that Japan, Belgium’s second largest investor outside Europe and its third largest trading partner in Asia, offers great potential for cooperation in innovative sectors. In Tokyo, he held several political meetings, including with Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa and Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi.
He stated that the meetings addressed geopolitical challenges, security and defense, research, energy, maritime management, biopharmaceuticals, climate, and industry, adding: “International conflict zones and the participation of our countries were also on the agenda.”
