Australian Prime Minister Albanese visits South Africa
Canberra, 21 November (Hibya) – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Freedom Park, one of the key memorial sites dedicated to South Africa’s struggle for freedom and democracy, where he paid tribute to three Australians who contributed to this struggle.
Albanese expressed his pride that Malcolm Fraser, Bob Hawke and Bruce Haigh will be honoured at Freedom Park, emphasizing that these figures represent the values of humanity, understanding and reconciliation. He said: “Today, I paid my respects to three Australians — Malcolm Fraser, Bob Hawke and Bruce Haigh — who will be honoured here. Their efforts reflected the cause of understanding and reconciliation among all people and exemplified the very best of who we are as Australians.”
Albanese noted that Freedom Park was established to commemorate those who fought for a free and democratic South Africa, highlighting the determination of these individuals to pursue justice and peace around the world.
