Arab League and Europe call for ceasefire over Israel’s operations in Lebanon
Beirut, June 1 (Hibya) - Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit condemned Israel’s “attacks” in Lebanon and called for an immediate ceasefire.
According to CCTV, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit condemned Israel’s “aggression” in Lebanon and called for an urgent ceasefire.
Aboul-Gheit stated that Israel’s actions violate Lebanon’s sovereignty and international law, stressing the need for the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
Arab League spokesperson Jamal Roshdi said that Israel’s attacks must stop immediately, warning that they pose a serious threat to regional security and stability.
British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper also called for a ceasefire, stating that Israel’s military escalation in Lebanon has led to civilian deaths, displacement, and the destruction of infrastructure. Cooper also urged all parties to participate in negotiations in good faith.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul expressed “deep concern” over the advance of the Israeli army in southern Lebanon and said that all parties must immediately halt the fighting.
