Aliyev: WUF13 made a strong contribution to the global urban agenda
Baku, May 23 (Hibya)- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that WUF13, hosted by Baku, became the largest urban forum in history with nearly 60,000 participants and said the event made a significant contribution to the global urban agenda.
Aliyev announced that the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), the second largest international organization hosted by Azerbaijan after COP29, had been successfully completed.
Aliyev stated that the forum held in Baku became the largest World Urban Forum in history with approximately 60,000 participants and thanked all participants, partners, and UN-Habitat for their contributions to the organization.
It was stated that the Leaders Segment, organized for the first time within the framework of the forum, provided significant political momentum to the global urban agenda. At the end of the event, two important documents titled “Chair’s Summary” and “Baku Call for Action” were adopted.
Aliyev also drew attention to Azerbaijan’s reconstruction efforts in the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions, noting that nine cities and hundreds of villages were being rebuilt from scratch. He stated that this process was regarded as an important example by the international community.
It was emphasized that topics discussed at the forum, such as sustainable urbanization, a clean environment, preservation of cultural heritage, and the needs of developing small island states, would contribute to the global agenda.
Aliyev also stated that WUF13 represented an important contribution to multilateralism and joint action in the face of increasing global uncertainties.
