Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the new Pacific Rugby League Partnership, which will strengthen sporting ties among Pacific nations, saying the initiative will create new opportunities for young players across the region.
Highlighting the shared cultural value across the Pacific, Albanese said, “If there is one thing Pacific nations have in common, it is their love of sport. Our new Pacific Rugby League Partnership will create new opportunities for the next generation of players from across our region.”
Referring to the social and educational dimensions of the initiative, Albanese said, “But this is about more than just rugby league. Together, we are opening the door to better education, skills, and training opportunities for Pacific Islanders.”
Listing the countries involved in the partnership, Albanese stated, “Australia, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Fiji, and Samoa – we are shaping our future together as one team.”
