Kallas: Iran's attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait are unacceptable
Brussels, July 8 (Hibya) - European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stressed that the military tensions between the United States and Iran, along with the attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, are making peace negotiations more difficult.
European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas criticized the parties, stating that the military tensions between the United States and Iran and the attacks in the Strait of Hormuz are complicating peace negotiations.
Highlighting the negative impact of military escalation on diplomatic efforts, Kallas said: "The exchange of fire between the United States and Iran further complicates already tense negotiations aimed at ending the war. Iran's attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait are unacceptable."
Referring to Tehran's commitments and the risks facing the energy corridor, Kallas stated: "Under the agreement, Tehran had committed to reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The recent attacks on vessels near the strait violate that commitment and threaten the resumption of energy supplies. Freedom of navigation must not be obstructed."
Outlining the European Union's diplomatic agenda and efforts to find a solution, Kallas said: "Next Monday, EU foreign ministers will meet with their counterparts from the Gulf countries to discuss how we can work together to support the implementation of the agreement and safeguard freedom of navigation in both the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea."
