Zelensky claims Ukraine entered Russia's Belgorod region
Kyiv, April 8 (Hibya) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday for the first time that Ukrainian forces are operating in Russia’s Belgorod region, where Moscow reported attacks in March.
Belgorod is regularly targeted by Ukrainian air strikes and is near Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces launched a surprise attack last year.
In his daily address, Zelensky said General Oleksandr Syrsky informed him about "our presence in the Kursk region and the Belgorod region." Zelensky added: "We continue active operations in the enemy's border areas, and this is absolutely right. War must return to where it came from."
According to the DeepState military blog, which is considered close to the Ukrainian army, Ukrainian forces have occupied a 13-square-kilometer area inside Russia near the border village of Demidovka.
Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials said the attacks on Kursk and other Russian territories were meant to divert Russian forces attacking Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
