The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.53 percent to 52,485.03 points, while the S&P 500 Index gained 0.70 percent to reach 7,489.72 points.
The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 1.00 percent to 25,373.853 points, while the Nasdaq 100 Index climbed 0.60 percent to 28,274.195 points.
The Russell 2000 Index, which tracks small-cap companies, ended the day down 0.50 percent at 2,931.339 points.
