UN High Commissioner Türk: 4.5 million girls are at risk
New York, February (Hibya) – United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk stated that 4.5 million girls are at risk and that urgent investment is needed in gender equality and gender-led change movements.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Türk said that more than 230 million girls and women have been subjected to female genital mutilation, a brutal form of gender-based violence rooted in gender inequality and harmful stereotypes.
Emphasizing that 4.5 million girls are at risk, Türk stated that urgent investment must be made in gender equality and in movements for change led by gender equality.
