Türk: Justice and equality for Afghan women and girls are non-negotiable
New York, November 29 (Hibya) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk stated that justice and equality for Afghan women and girls are non-negotiable.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Türk pointed out that Afghan women and girls are facing relentless erosion of their rights, highlighting restrictions on their freedom of movement, expression, education, and work.
Türk said that oppressing half of the population based on gender is self-harm on a national scale and called for the immediate reversal of these discriminatory policies.
Emphasizing that justice and equality for Afghan women and girls are non-negotiable, Türk added: "We must amplify their voices and strengthen accountability, including the ICC investigation into gender persecution and discussions on gender discrimination."
