Tsahkna: Russia’s shadow fleet poses an environmental threat
Tallinn, January 22 (Hibya) – Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna stated that Russia’s shadow fleet, used to evade sanctions and finance its war, poses a risk to global security and the environment.
Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna made a statement regarding Russia’s maritime activities.
Noting that Russia uses this method to sustain its war budget, Tsahkna said: “Russia’s shadow fleet poses a threat to global security and the environment. Unsafe, falsely flagged vessels are used to evade sanctions and finance Russia’s brutal war. These ships operate far beyond the Baltic Sea and must be stopped everywhere.”
Emphasizing Estonia’s readiness for international cooperation on this issue, Tsahkna concluded: “Estonia supports decisive actions by the EU and NATO to cut off the sources financing Russia’s attempts to force Ukraine into submission and to eliminate the shadow fleet.”
