US President Donald Trump made a statement on Greenland’s strategic importance and NATO’s role.

Referring to Greenland’s critical role in military projects, Trump said: “The United States needs Greenland for national security. It is vital for the Golden Dome we are building. NATO should take the lead in enabling us to acquire Greenland. If we do not lead, Russia or China will — and that will not happen.”

Emphasizing that NATO’s deterrence depends on US military power, Trump said: “Without the tremendous power of the United States, which I largely built during my first term and have now taken to a new and higher level, NATO could not be an effective force or a deterrent — not even close! They know it, and I know it.”

Concluding his remarks, Trump said: “When Greenland is in the hands of the United States, NATO becomes much stronger and more effective. Anything less is unacceptable. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
