When asked by reporters whether the department would remain active if Musk departs from the U.S. administration, Trump replied, “DOGE will continue to operate.”

Trump explained that Musk would likely have to resign from DOGE leadership “at some point” in the future because he needs to focus on his own business.

“But I want Elon to stay with us as long as possible,” Trump added.

DOGE is responsible for optimizing the work of U.S. federal agencies. The department also fights against “inefficient spending” of federal funds and identifies “fraudulent schemes” involving budgetary use.

DOGE’s operations are frequently criticized by Trump’s political opponents.
