Trump: Pretti was carrying a very dangerous weapon
Washington, January 26 (Hibya) — United States President Donald Trump claimed that 37-year-old Alex Pretti, who was shot dead by federal border agents, was carrying “a very dangerous weapon.”
Trump told the Wall Street Journal, “I don’t like armed attacks. I don’t like them. But I also don’t like someone entering a protest carrying a very powerful weapon and two fully loaded magazines. That’s not good either.”
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Pretti was carrying a semi-automatic pistol.
However, reports differ. Footage examined by the New York Times showed Pretti holding a phone, not a weapon, during the incident.
Trump avoided commenting on whether the officer who shot Alex Pretti did the right thing, but said he was open to withdrawing the immigration agency ICE from Minneapolis.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump made demands of all Democratic governors and mayors in the country, including in Minneapolis and Minnesota.
Among other things, he called for leaders to hand over all “criminal illegal immigrants” held in state prisons and detention centers to federal authorities and to “cooperate” with the government.
