Trump plans to withdraw the U.S. from the UN Human Rights Council
Washington, February 4 (Hibya) - On Tuesday, according to a White House official who is not authorized to speak publicly before the announcement, President Trump will sign an executive order withdrawing the U.S. from the United Nations Human Rights Council.
During his first presidential term, Trump severed ties with the UNHRC, an organization that U.S. leaders from both parties have long considered biased against Israel.
The order will also cut future funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The Biden administration had halted UNRWA funding amid the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance, following Israel's accusations that some agency staff had ties to the organization.
However, an independent review found no evidence to support these claims. UNRWA is the main agency providing aid to Palestinians in Gaza.
Initially reported by Politico, the new executive order will be signed on the day Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits the White House, marking Trump’s first meeting with a foreign leader since his inauguration last month.
