U.S. President Trump said in a social media post that oil, natural gas and mineral exploration activities were preparing to begin in Greenland.

Trump claimed that Greenland has more easily accessible oil than many regions of the world and said the island is strategically important for the defensive and offensive capabilities of the United States and Europe.

Trump argued that any potential attack on the United States would have to come through Greenland, adding that defense systems in the region could neutralize drones, missiles and other weapons.

Claiming that Greenland provides the United States with advantages in terms of time, location and line of sight that cannot be found anywhere else, Trump drew attention to the island’s importance for security.
