The income gap between Europe’s largest and smallest farms is widening
Stockholm, November 2 (Hibya) - An analysis of agricultural income data by The Guardian shows that the income gap between Europe’s largest and smallest farms has doubled over the past 15 years, reaching record levels as the number of small farms decreases.
While large farms achieve record profits as food prices rise, small farms struggle with extremely low profit margins.
Data from the European Commission’s Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) and Eurostat shows that farmers across the continent achieved record profits when the Ukraine war drove up food prices, supporting a long-standing trend of rising average incomes surpassing inflation.
