Sybiha says Russia has attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure 76 times
Kyiv, October 18 (Hibya) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Russia had attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure 76 times since US President Donald Trump's announcement of an energy ceasefire, calling for increased pressure on Moscow.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported that Russia had carried out 76 attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since US President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire. Stating that Russia was failing to meet its commitments, Sybiha said, "The message that Moscow is not fulfilling any of its commitments could not be clearer."
Sybiha reported that Russia had launched approximately 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs and 66 missiles at Ukraine in just one week, leaving tens of thousands of families without electricity. He noted that Russia was targeting Ukraine's energy system while international peace initiatives were ongoing.
Sybiha argued that Moscow wanted sanctions relief without changing its behavior and sought to generate revenue without being held accountable. He warned that reducing economic pressure under these circumstances could increase the resources Russia could use to finance the war.
Sybiha emphasized that serious efforts to end the war must increase pressure on Russia, restrict the revenues financing its attacks and strengthen Ukraine's ability to defend its cities and energy infrastructure. "Lowering the cost of Russian aggression will not bring peace while the attacks continue. It may only make it easier to finance new attacks," he said.
