Sybiha: Russia is waging war against Europe
Kyiv, September 5 (Hibya) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia is carrying out hybrid attacks against Europe and called on European countries to cut their ties with Russia.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Europe should take seriously the activities he says Russia is carrying out, including sabotage, cyberattacks, disinformation and airspace violations.
“Russia is at war with Europe, even if Europe refuses to see it,” Sybiha said in his statement. He described various incidents, ranging from the incident in Leipzig and allegations of sabotage targeting defence manufacturers in European Union (EU) countries to GPS jamming activities and drone and missile incursions into NATO airspace, as parts of a broader Russian strategy.
Arguing that similar methods had also been used before Russia's attacks on Ukraine in 2014 and 2022, Sybiha said Europe should pursue a stronger and more proactive strategy.
Sybiha called for the presence of Russian citizens in Europe to be significantly restricted, Russian combatants to be prevented from entering the European Union, and non-essential visa procedures to be reduced to a minimum.
Calling for all ties with Russia, including commercial relations, to be severed, Sybiha proposed imposing a trade embargo and severe sanctions, as well as terminating energy projects with Russia, including those involving nuclear energy.
Sybiha also argued that Russian influence in Europe should be eliminated, calling for the closure of Rossotrudnichestvo and organisations known as “Russian Houses”, the termination of cultural and scientific exchanges, and the blocking of Russian propaganda.
Noting that Ukraine has accumulated significant experience in countering various forms of Russian attacks, Sybiha said the country is ready to share this experience at the request of European governments and contribute to preserving peace and stability across the continent.
