Scientific push in Ethiopia: New research complex with 40 laboratories inaugurated
Addis Ababa, April 4 (Hibya) - Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali announced that the modern research complex established within the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) marks an important step toward the country’s goal of self-sufficiency in healthcare and pharmaceutical production.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Ali announced the opening of a new research complex that will strengthen the country’s scientific infrastructure. It was stated that the facility, established within AHRI, represents the beginning of a new era in the scientific ecosystem of Ethiopia and Africa.
Abiy Ahmed Ali emphasized that the modern complex is not merely an infrastructure investment but is positioned as a center of excellence for a sustainable and healthy future of the country.
The complex includes 40 laboratories, as well as advanced genomics and bioinformatics platforms, and a bioequivalence center that will certify the quality and effectiveness of domestically produced medicines. It was also highlighted that the complex enhances preparedness and response capacity for health emergencies.
Abiy Ahmed Ali stated that the new center aims to transform research into policy and innovation into practical solutions, noting that this investment is a significant step toward pharmaceutical self-sufficiency, sustainable health security, and independence in strategic sectors.
