Russia welcomes UN recognition of slavery as a grave crime
Moscow, March 28 (Hibya) - Russia welcomed the United Nations General Assembly’s decision to define the slave trade and the enslavement of Africans as a “most serious crime”.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution, led by Ghana and the African Union, declaring the transatlantic slave trade and the racialized enslavement of Africans as among the most serious crimes against humanity.
The resolution was adopted with the support of 123 countries, while the United States, Israel, and Argentina voted against it, and 52 countries abstained.
Russia stated that the decision is an important step toward achieving historical justice and criticized countries that did not support it.
The statement also highlighted the role of the Soviet Union in the struggle against colonialism and emphasized that international cooperation in this area will continue today.
