Qatar emphasizes diplomacy and collective security at EU-GCC relations forum
Milan, May 8 (Hibya) - Qatar Prime Minister’s Advisor and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Dr. Majed Mohammed Al Ansari called for strengthening diplomacy and multilateral cooperation instead of military pressure in the face of escalating global crises during a forum held in Milan.
Speaking at the session titled “Bridging Stability in an Age of Fragmentation: EU-GCC Cooperation” held in Milan, Italy, Qatar Prime Minister’s Advisor and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Dr. Majed Mohammed Al Ansari said that the international community needs stronger diplomatic engagement in the face of growing geopolitical tensions.
Speaking at the event organized by the Doha Forum and MED Dialogues in cooperation with the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) and the Center for International Policy Research (CIPR), Al Ansari stated that ongoing conflicts are placing serious pressure on global decision-making mechanisms.
Al Ansari noted that some actors are trying to shape political narratives and approaches in order to advance their strategic interests, emphasizing that increasing competition and shifting power balances are making the international system more fragile.
The Qatari official stressed that military and political pressure do not produce lasting solutions, saying that mediation and diplomacy play a critical role in achieving sustainable stability. “If the effectiveness of diplomacy is being questioned, this actually shows that the need for it is increasing,” he said.
Al Ansari also stated that current wars are affecting relations between Europe, the United States, and the Middle East, and are having wide-ranging consequences for energy security, the global economy, supply chains, and alliances.
Concluding his speech, Al Ansari emphasized that security and stability can no longer be ensured through the efforts of individual states alone, stressing the need to strengthen international cooperation and collective coordination in order to achieve lasting solutions.
