Portugal congratulates International Criminal Court on Sakharov Prize
Lisbon, October 23 (Hibya) - Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated the International Criminal Court on being awarded the 2026 Sakharov Prize by the European Parliament, in recognition of its contribution to combating impunity and protecting human rights.

In its statement, the ministry said the award recognized the ICC's role in combating impunity and defending human rights.
The statement emphasized that the decision, made at a time of growing challenges to the international order and risks of impunity for serious crimes, once again highlighted the importance of international justice capable of operating independently and effectively.
