Deniz polisinden Adalar çevresinde 'deniz taksi' denetimi

The transportation center, located between Warsaw and the smaller city of Lodz, aims to welcome 40 million passengers annually. This will put it on par with airports like Heathrow in London and Istanbul.

The project was approved in 2017, but a corruption scandal involving the previous government delayed progress.

The current Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, elected in 2023, promised to give the project a "fresh start."

Authorities have allocated 131 billion Polish zlotys (30 billion euros) for construction, which will begin in 2026.

The mega airport is considered a game-changer for travel in the region. Flights will provide connections to important international destinations, while high-speed train services will offer passengers a no-flight option to reach major cities like Krakow, Gdansk, and Wroclaw.

It is expected that about 40% of passengers, especially from Warsaw, will reach the airport by train, taking approximately 20 minutes. A highway system connecting the rest of the country will also be in place.

Tusk said last week, "Planes will fly 24/7; the region's largest transport hub; Europe's fastest rail network. This is what we are building."

The airport, initially called Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK), was linked to corruption allegations.

Reports reveal that the previous populist ruling party sold 160 hectares of land crucial for the transport hub's construction to a private company.

A large 2,585-hectare land area has been approved for construction. The airport will open with two parallel runways about 4,000 meters long. A third and possibly fourth runway are expected to be added later.

There will also be a passenger terminal and a train station next to the runways.

The design of the transport hub is being carried out by the British architecture studio Foster + Partners.
